Mother Nature…sometimes she throws us a huge and disappointing curve and sometimes she treats us very well. Last year (winter of 2011) we had no crop…none, zip, nada. But this winter of 2012-13 is thankfully a different story. It is not a huge harvest but it’s good enough for us to wander through our grove of 1400 trees and give thanks for a reasonable harvest.
The yield may be low BUT the quality is great. This year’s olio nuevo boasts a strong, robust and peppery flavor that will linger for a couple of months. Then it will begin to mellow into a rich, smooth and slightly peppery oil – a taste and aroma reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside.
